BSS Technology USE CASE/PRODUCT TRACEABILITY (T&T)

USE CASE · PRODUCT TRACEABILITY (T&T)

From raw material to customer, an unbroken trace.

Every product's history and journey on one chain. Forward tracing shows which batches a raw material went into; backward tracing shows which roll, shift and supplier a complaint came from — in minutes. In the global supply chain this capability is known as T&T — Track and Trace: it works at four levels, from shipment down to pallet/case, item-level and multi-tier supplier traceability.

Raw material receipt

A kraft liner roll from the supplier is registered with its lot number. That lot traces forward into every batch it produced; if a problem arises, every batch made from the same lot lists in a single query.

WHY IT MATTERS

"Traceability is not an archive; it is how quickly you can answer when a complaint arrives."

Questions from the field.

"Does the operator on the floor have to enter extra data?

No. The trail comes from actions already being taken — barcode scans, work order closes, quality approvals. No separate recording step is added; the existing flow is the record.

"Do we have to enter the supplier's lot ourselves?

When the roll or pallet barcode is scanned at goods-in, the supplier lot is recorded. If the supplier label is non-standard it is defined once at receipt; everything after that is automatic.

"Is backward tracing really a single query?

Yes. A serial or batch number opens the whole chain with one key; you never join intermediate tables by hand. The result can be filtered and exported for audit.

"Does it work for older batches too?

Every batch produced from the moment the system goes live has a full trail. Older batches trace partially, depending on the data kept at the time; the scope is settled in the project.
